Completed whilst working atAFLS+P (re-branded as Space & Place).
S&P designed and completed Northolt Leisure Centre in West London for Ealing Borough Council. It replaced the existing Northolt Swimerama that was outdated and no longer sustainable in terms of maintenance.
The project is unique in the terms of accommodation which consist of a local Police Station, Public Library, 8 lane 25m Swimming Pool with spectators' seating, 10m Learner pool, Fitness Suites and an Multi-Use Events Space. It is thus a fully integrated project within a constricted site, delivering on community infrastructure.
The massing consist of a formal articulation of a series of boxes with different hierarchies: some placed at an angle, some protruding, some at various heights. This results in internal spaces that sometimes intersect and carve out voids within the solids.
A pattern in the front facade diffuses the expansive glazing into a filigree of colour tones. This is offset against a monochrome colour of dark engineering brick and grey aluminium powder coated fascia and soffits.
